Can you describe your role at Umicore?
As an intern in Finance I have two main areas of work. I do some daily tasks in accounting such as following up the status and legitimateness of invoices. On the other hand I also follow up on the import of raw materials. I am in contact with freight forwarders to ensure that our raw materials are cleared through customs and that they can be released for refining.
What do you enjoy about your job?
I like the versatility of my job. It allows me to plan my own schedule. Sometimes I have to face challenging problems which keep me on my toes and allow me to learn from more experienced colleagues.
Do you like working for Umicore?
Yes, I like working at Umicore. The atmosphere is nice and I enjoy my job.
Why did you want to join Umicore?
Since I am from Kokkola, I already knew about the factory before working here and before it was acquired by Umicore. I heard a lot of good things about working here, so I decided to apply. Plus, the business of Umicore responds to the growing need of energy storage as well as the increasing importance of recycling. I was surprised to see how my hometown Kokkola is an integral part of global green business.
What are your expectations when you go to work in the morning?
Next to correctly fulfilling my daily tasks, it is important for me that my work is meaningful and to partake in improving the processes at Umicore. I hope to learn and to improve myself every day.
What has been your highlight so far in your role at Umicore?
I have received a lot of positive feedback and it feels nice to be acknowledged for my work. I believe that constructive feedback motivates people and fuels the team spirit.
Your advice to newcomers?
Ask a lot of questions and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your colleagues will gladly help you and you will learn from the experts themselves. Just remember: there are no stupid questions.
