Step 1: Preparation

Good preparation is very important. How do you do that? Start by reading the vacancies carefully and decide on the position you want to apply for. You must upload your CV online on this website. Be sure to make this document in advance. Upload it in MS Word or as a PDF. 


What should you include on your CV? 


Information about your education and professional career: your previous work experience and employer(s), as well as your tasks and responsibilities (preferably with a short description), your language skills, additional training(s), etc.

Step 2: Application

Once you have prepared your CV and selected a vacancy you can start the application process. 

  1. Go to the position that you want to apply for and click on ‘apply for this job’.
  2. You will be taken to a similar page with a description of that vacancy.
  3. Once again, click on ‘click here to apply for this position’.
  4. Create a profile. Once that is done you can upload your CV in MS Word or as a PDF. 

Step 3: Confirmation

Was the application process successful? If so, you will automatically receive a confirmation e-mail. Your application is now in the hands of our recruiters who will handle your application and keep you informed.

The different steps of our application process

1. Sending applications by candidates for a selected recruitment advertisement (online)

2. Verification of the submitted applications in terms of competences required for a given position

3. Online or face to face interview with selected candidates

4.  Depending on the position, an interview with the hiring manager (in a pandemic situation, interviews take place online)

5. Personality-cognitive tests

6. Depending on the specificity of the position, the candidate may be invited for a final interview

7. Upon successful completion of the interviews, the selected candidate receives an offer of employment

Onboarding at Umicore

Curious how your first days at Umicore will look like? Before the real work starts, we aim to welcome you in the best way possible. Discover the onboarding process at Umicore Finland now. 

Pre-boarding

A few days before your first day at Umicore, you will receive an e-mail containing all the information you need for your first days. You will get an overview about the start time of your first working day, information about the occupational health inspection, and of course who to contact if you have any questions before you start working! 

Onboarding 

The first working day consists of a general orientation that lasts about four hours, after which you will meet your supervisor and new colleagues! In the general onboarding, you will learn more about Umicore, HR, IT, quality and last but not least safety matters. It is important to give you the best possible start to work, and the general onboarding package is built for this purpose. 

Post-boarding 

After the general orientation session, your onboarding programme will continue in your department with your supervisor for at least two weeks so that you gain the necessary knowledge and skills for the job. During your whole assignment we will support you with trainings and coaching. In this way, you will gain valuable professional experience that will serve you in your future career.

The recruitment process consists of multiple steps. First, our recruiters make a selection of the candidates by screening CVs based on skills and experience. If you are selected, an  interview will follow with the recruiter and hiring manager. The last step are cognitive and personality tests. For some positions a final interview may take place.

We operate a highly automated hydrometallurgical processing facility at Kokkola’s Industrial Park on the West Coast of Finland. It is the largest cobalt refining plant outside China and a big European precursor plant. Operational since 1968, our facility became part of the Umicore Group in 2019.
